Editing and rewriting

The editing and rewriting process is designed to streamline correspondence to ensure that it is consistent in style and structure. Here’s Your Proof provides a fresh, impartial pair of eyes to give your document a vital last polish. In essence, we become your company’s internal editing department; our services are used to edit outgoing correspondence, including letters, website copy, business plans, flyers, proposals, brochures, catalogues, and other business documents.
Constructive editing yields a finished document that is:

  • Easy to read
  • Consistent in spelling, punctuation, syntax and grammar
  • Concise
  • Error-free.

Please note: Standard Australian English will be used throughout all documents unless specifically requested by the client.

Sub-editing and Proofreading

Any text is more likely to be read favourably if it is written clearly, consistently and accurately. Poorly written business documents can be embarrassing and damaging to the reputation of any business. How often do we see the integrity of an advertisement, brochure, annual report, feature story, or web page undermined by grammatical or spelling errors?
Typographical and grammatical errors are a distraction to the reader, lessening the impact of your message. Nothing jars the reader’s attention more swiftly than incorrect spelling, poor punctuation, and clumsy word choice and sentence construction.

“Instead of an inspiring, enlightening read, I got a scatter-brained, typo-laden gossip column. I can't believe, as was stated in another review, that the typos were the fault of the printer.”
As arduous as they may seem, sub-editing and proofreading are the necessary processes that will enhance your written documents or online content. Once your document has been received, either as hard copy or electronically in Word format, it is carefully scrutinised for errors and consistency in:

  • Spelling and punctuation (technical and contextual)
  • Appropriate grammar and word usage (technical and contextual)
  • Text formatting.

The procedure

The sequence from your concept to our completed document is straightforward. In order:

  • The client sends Here’s Your Proof an assignment brief outlining their requirements, including proposed length of the document, approximate word count, all relevant facts, and target readership.
  • Here’s Your Proof then shapes the content (including a substantial proofread, of course). The first draft of the document is then passed to the client via email.
  • Subsequently, the client is then free to choose which of the recommended changes they will adopt.


Using the facilities accessible in MS-Word, you may view:

  • The original
  • The original, with all recommended alterations clearly evident
  • The edited version, with all amendments incorporated into the text.

Rates

$60 per hour (plus GST) for writing, editing and proofreading services, with a $30 minimum charge per project.
